Terms of Use
Last Updated: August 9, 2026
Welcome to James Fields Guitars. These Terms of Use govern your use of this website and the information, photographs, materials, and services made available through it.
By using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with these terms, please discontinue use of the website.
Website Purpose
The James Fields Guitars website provides information about handcrafted classical guitars and ukuleles, the instruments I build, traditional construction methods, the workshop, available instruments, and commissioned instruments.
The website also provides ways to contact James Fields Guitars regarding instruments, commissions, purchases, and other inquiries.
Information on the website is provided for general informational purposes and may be changed, corrected, or updated as the workshop and its instruments develop.
Instrument Information
Every handmade instrument is unique. Photographs, descriptions, specifications, measurements, materials, and other information are provided to represent each instrument as accurately as reasonably possible.
Natural wood varies in grain, figure, color, texture, density, and other characteristics. Differences of this kind are inherent in handcrafted wooden instruments and are not necessarily defects.
Computer monitors, mobile devices, lighting, photography, and image processing can also affect the appearance of wood and finishes. The appearance of an instrument in person may therefore differ somewhat from its appearance in photographs.
Reasonable efforts are made to provide accurate specifications and descriptions. If you have a question about a particular instrument, please contact James Fields Guitars before purchasing or commissioning it.
Availability and Pricing
Available instruments are produced in limited numbers and are generally one-of-a-kind items.
Displaying an instrument on the website does not guarantee that it will remain available. An instrument may become reserved, sold, withdrawn from sale, or otherwise unavailable.
Prices may be changed before a purchase or commission is accepted. Once a purchase or commission agreement has been accepted, the applicable agreed price will govern that transaction.
James Fields Guitars reserves the right to correct typographical errors, pricing errors, inaccurate specifications, or other mistakes appearing on the website.
Purchases
When online purchasing is available, submitting an order does not necessarily constitute final acceptance of the transaction.
A transaction may be declined or canceled when reasonably necessary because of an error, duplicate sale, payment problem, suspected fraud, incorrect pricing, inability to verify the transaction, or another legitimate issue affecting fulfillment.
Payment processing may be provided by a third-party payment processor. James Fields Guitars does not require customers to provide payment-card information directly through ordinary contact or commission inquiry forms.
Purchases are also subject to the applicable Shipping Policy and Returns Policy.
Commissions
A commission begins with an inquiry and discussion between the prospective owner and James Fields Guitars.
Submitting a commission inquiry does not obligate either party to proceed with a build.
Before a commissioned instrument is accepted, the principal specifications, price, estimated completion window, deposit requirements, payment arrangements, and other material terms will be established between James Fields Guitars and the customer.
Because commissioned instruments are individually built, additional terms may apply to a particular commission. When commission-specific terms conflict with general information appearing on the website, the terms specifically agreed upon for that commission will govern the commission.
Estimated completion dates or build windows are estimates unless expressly agreed otherwise. Handcrafted instrument construction can be affected by materials, finishing conditions, workshop circumstances, and other factors that cannot always be predicted precisely.
Intellectual Property
Unless otherwise stated, the original text, photographs, graphics, JFG logo and branding, instrument documentation, workshop photographs, and other original materials appearing on this website are the property of James Fields Guitars and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
You may view the website and its materials for your personal, noncommercial use.
You may not reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, modify, commercially exploit, or present original James Fields Guitars website content as your own without permission.
Links to the website may be shared provided they are not used in a misleading manner or in a way that falsely suggests endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation.
Instrument Records and Photographs
James Fields Guitars maintains permanent records of instruments built in the workshop. These records may include specifications, construction information, workshop photographs, and photographs of completed instruments.
Purchase or ownership of an instrument does not transfer copyright or other intellectual-property rights in photographs, website content, designs, or documentation created by James Fields Guitars.
Customer names and personal information will not be intentionally included in public instrument records without permission.
Historical and Educational Content
The website may contain information about guitar and ukulele history, lutherie, tonewoods, construction techniques, acoustics, historical makers, and related subjects.
This material is provided for general educational and informational purposes. While reasonable care is taken in preparing it, historical interpretation and technical understanding can evolve, and the material should not be regarded as a comprehensive technical or scholarly reference.
Descriptions of construction methods used by James Fields Guitars describe workshop practices and are not instructions or guarantees that the same methods will produce equivalent results when used by others.
